"Think back to when you were a hopeful beginner, when the tools of your craft were exotic and new.
Remember the fascination of learning, the joys of your first steps forward. This might be the best way to retain the energy that drives the work, and to fall in love with the practice again and again." - Rick Rubin, The Creative Act
The artist is the one who recaptures that childlike fascination with the world.
Courage is the willingness to walk alone.
If I could never talk about this to anyone, would I do it?
To put your beginner shoes on and ask why?
You need a certain level of naivety, to connect to your inner child.
Look for the signs of things that excite you in a way that you can't control.
Follow your genuine curiosity without knowing where it's going.
Dig so deep down a rabbit hole that time has passed you by, you've watched that many YouTube videos or read that many articles you forgot where you started.
Write down things that make absolutely no sense... yet.
Create 1000 things that don't work, it is all feedback for just 1 great idea.
Your creative brain will be lit on fire.
True knowledge is figuring it out for yourself, and not blindly listening to people, the internet or Twitter advice like a robot.
Learn, then most importantly unlearn. Can your ego really detach from what you spent decades knowing?
You will find your true sense of self, where your external world does not dicate your internal experience.
Don't forget that you are never exempt from:
Look for what you notice but no one else sees.
The real work of the artist is their way of being in the world.
Take no ones word for it.
